Bio:
STEFANIE E. NANES, assistant professor, received her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1994 and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 2003. She teaches courses in comparative politics and on the politics of the Middle East. Her current research focuses on the politics of identity and citizenship in the Middle East. Dr. Nanes' dissertation dealt with new forms of discourse in Jordan regarding the relationship between citizenship and national identity. She is also interested in issues relating to women and gender in the Middle East. She is the author of AFighting Honor Crimes: Evidence of Civil Society in Jordan," which appeared in the Middle East Journal in Winter 2003. Dr. Nanes is currently working on publishing parts of her dissertation as journal articles, and pursuing the question of citizenship in the wider Arab world.
