Bio:
Dr. O'Brien is Professor of Psychology and a Core Faculty Member in the Ph.D. Program in Combined Clinical and School Psychology. In 1972, he received his doctorate from the American Psychological Association accredited program in Clinical Psychology at West Virginia University.
Dr. O'Brien specializes in applied behavior analysis in industry and sports. He maintains a consulting practice in those areas, as well as a private practice in behavioral approaches to clinical problems. He has numerous research publications in his specialty areas as well as a co-authored book on golf and an edited handbook on organizational behavior management. He is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management. Dr. O'Brien's research avocation has been in the area of hypnosis.
In addition to teaching and research, Dr. O'Brien is Director of the Doctoral Respecialization Program in Clinical/School Psychology. This program helps doctoral level psychologists from areas such as developmental, experimental or social psychology to add training in Clinical and/or School Psychology. In addition, Dr. O'Brien has served as the Psychology Department Representative on the University Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects.
For the past 12 years, Dr. O'Brien has coached the Psychology Department's two softball teams of faculty, alumni, and graduate students. These teams compete in various recreational leaguesaround Long Island.
