Bio:

Dr. Sonfield attended Cornell, Harvard and New York Universities, where he received an A.B., an M.B.A. and a Ph.D., respectively.

Dr. Sonfield was vice president and a principal of C. Bruno and Son, Inc., one of the largest musical instrument importers and wholesalers in the United States. He was on the boards of directors of several national corporations, including the National Musical String Company and Brun Realty Corporation. He has had extensive international business experience, including employment in London and major business activity in Japan.

Dr. Sonfield's areas of expertise are entrepreneurship, small business, minority business, family business, managerial consultation and automotive business history. He is the Director of Hofstra's Small Business Institute, through which students consult to local small businesses. Dr. Sonfield has more than 200 publications to his name. His many articles have appeared in the Harvard Business Review, Business Horizons, the Journal of Small Business Management, Family Business Review, the American Journal of Small Business, the Journal of Small Business Strategy, the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship and many other national business journals. He has also edited four books and authored many business cases and book chapters.

At Hofstra Dr. Sonfield has twice been Department Chairperson and has also chaired and participated as an active member of many academic and University governance committees. Dr. Sonfield served for four years as Chair of the Executive Committee of the University Senate and three years as the Speaker of the Faculty and also served as the Associate Director of Hofstra's Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence. He has twice received the Dean's Award for Dedicated Service.

Dr. Sonfield is a member of the Academy of Management; the Society of Automotive Historians; Omicron Delta Epsilon, the national honor society of economics; and Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business administration honor society. He is a Fellow of the Small Business Institute and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Small Business Strategy and the Journal of Small Business Management.
