BioDr. Mohammed Tafti holds a doctoral degree in Information Systems Technology with a minor in International Business from George Washington University. Professor Tafti has taught a large variety of graduate and undergraduate courses including Computer Projects, Structured Systems Analysis and Design, Database Management Systems, Object-Oriented Programming, Connectivity in the Business Environment, Management of Information Technology, Introduction to Computers in Business, Power Tools for End-User Support, Information Systems for Management, IT Project Management, and Research Seminar in Information Technology. He has been a member of the Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence (CTSE) for three terms. He has developed and taught the capstone course “Computer Projects'? for many years. His students in this course were assigned real-life computer projects mainly from organizations in the Long Island area. This course has brought to Hofstra University the prestigious “Pioneer Vision Award'? for developing innovative computer information systems.
Dr. Tafti's research includes topics on IT outsourcing, knowledge-based systems, group decision support systems, strategic information systems, customer relationship management (CRM), software development practices, and user satisfaction with information systems. He has published over 75 refereed articles in journals and proceedings of regional, national, and international academic associations. He has also served on the editorial board of several refereed journals. His research on user satisfaction, strategic information systems, and IT Outsourcing has been supported through grants by the Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University. His article on “Lessons Learned from Outsourcing Practice in a SMB“ received the Best MIS/DSS/Microcomputers Paper award at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Northeast Decisions Sciences Institute.
Dr. Tafti has served Hofstra University in a variety of positions including Chairperson of IT /QM Department, Chairperson of the Zarb School of Business Executive Committee, Chairperson of Faculty Personnel Board, Zarb School of Business Curriculum Committee, Senate Task Force on Bias and Discrimination, Center for Teaching and Scholarly Excellence (CTSE), Strategic Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC), Outcome Assessment Committee, Departmental Curriculum Committee, Zarb School of Business Computer Committee, and Chairperson of the CTSE New Faculty Mentoring Committee among many others. Professional organizations in which Dr. Tafti has served as a member/officer include Association for Computing Machinery, Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP, formerly DPMA), Decision Sciences Institute, International Association of Knowledge Engineers, Information Resources Management Association, and International Association for Computer Information Systems. For three years he chaired the Graduate CIS Model Curriculum Committee of DPMA.
