I teach courses in American literature, disability studies, and women's studies. I also direct Hofstra's Disability Studies Program, which offers an undergraduate minor and a concentration for pre-med and pre-health science majors. I am interested in how science and medicine, literature, film, and other forms of popular culture contribute to individual and shared understandings of the human body. My current research looks at gothic representations of women's bodies in fiction by nineteenth-century women writers. I earned a Ph.D. in English and a graduate certificate in women's studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2000, and I graduated from Villanova University with a BA in English in 1991.
