Dr. Viswanathan received a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, India, and an M.B.A. in Finance from Western Michigan University. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In his thesis he examines the effects of Third World debt defaults on U.S. creditor banks.Before coming to Hofstra, Dr. Viswanathan taught investments and corporate finance at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Viswanathan's research and teaching interests include international finance and banking, corporate finance, international mergers and international stock listings. He has presented several papers at the Eastern Finance Association, Allied Social Sciences Association, Midwest Finance Association and Financial Management Association meetings, and at the Global Finance Conference. He is on the editorial board of the AIMS International Journal of Management, and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for The Financial Review, Financial Management, Emerging Market Financial Trends, and AIMS International Journal of Management. His research articles have appeared in Applied Financial Economics, the Global Finance Journal, Managerial Finance, Advances in International Banking and Finance, Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics, Corporate Finance Review, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of International Business and Law, and Journal of Financial Research. He has served on the program committees of the Eastern Finance Association and the Midwest Finance Association.
Dr. Viswanathan frequently reviews textbooks in the areas of international and corporate finance. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the New York Society of Security Analysts.
