Dr. Sachs received a B.A. in psychology from the City College of New York, a B.B.A in accountancy from Bernard M. Baruch College, an MA in applied economics and managerial science from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in accounting (minors in economics and finance) from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Sachs’ research interests include financial reporting and disclosure, agency theory, accounting and disclosure regulation, and accounting practices in regulated industries. He is also interested in the implementation of internal controls in small and medium-size organizations, particularly nonprofits. His co-authored article, "Financial Disclosure and Bond Insurance," was published in The Journal of Law and Economics. Another paper, "Accounting and Deregulation: the Case of Motor Carriers," is under second revision for The Journal of Accounting and Public Policy. He is currently working on another paper, “The Information Content of Stock Dividend Announcements: Theory and Evidence on the Retained Earnings Hypothesis.” He has presented at national and regional meetings of the American Accounting Association, the Financial Management Association, and the American Law and Economics Association.

Prior to coming to Hofstra University, Dr. Sachs was an assistant professor of accounting at the University of Cincinnati, a visiting assistant professor of accountancy at Bernard M. Baruch College of The City University of New York and a visiting associate professor of accounting at Fordham University.

Dr. Sachs was formerly on the board of directors of the Association for Holotropic Breathwork International. He is interested in Holotropic Breathwork, consciousness research, and shamanism. He also loves the logical elegance of price theory. He is married and has three incredible feline teachers.
