Dr. Jacqueline Burke earned a Ph.D. from New York University and has an M.B.A. and B.B.A. degree from Hofstra University. She was awarded the Herbert A. Tonne Scholarship and Peter Agnew Scholarship from New York University. Dr. Jacqueline Burke is a Certified Public Accountant.
Dr. Burke's primary research interests are in collaborative accounting problem solving in a distance learning environment. She received the Delta Pi Epsilon Independent Research Award for her article titled "Collaborative Accounting Problem Solving Via Group Support Systems in a Face-to-Face Versus Distant Learning Environment" that was published in the Information Technology, Learning, and Performance Journal. This award is given for the best research that advances any area of business education published in any review board or editor referred journal in the country. Dr. Burke's other research interests are in financial and cost accounting as well as accounting education. She is a co-author of Product Costing: Concepts and Applications, second edition, published by McGraw-Hill. Dr. Burke's article in The CPA Journal "An Extraordinary Decision," addressed FASB's (Financial Accounting Standards Board) decision about the accounting for the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Some of Dr. Burke's other articles include "Disclosure Effectiveness," published in the CPA Journal, "A Practical Look at SAS No. 82," published in the National Public Accountant . Dr. Burke has also served as a reviewer for various journals and textbooks, such as Advances in Public Interest Accounting and accounting textbooks by McGraw Hill. Dr. Burke has prepared instructional material for Kaplan CPA Review, a national CPA review program.
Prior to coming to Hofstra, Dr. Burke formulated and implemented systems for a newly acquired subsidiary of The Washington Post. Dr. Burke redesigned the accounting system and control functions of the acquired subsidiary to integrate with those of the parent company. Dr. Burke also worked as an accountant in the medical, textile and restaurant industries. She has served as a member of the Long Island board of directors of the Institute of Management Accountants (I.M.A.).
