Bio:
Barbara DeVoe is the Vice President of Interprofessional Education and Learning and Director of the Patient Safety Institute for the Center for Learning and Innovation of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Her responsibilities include the development and administration of nursing fellowship orientation programs for critical care, emergency department and pediatric nursing staff. She also participates in the curriculum design and content delivery for all courses at the Patient Safety Institute. She was a primary architect for the health system’s fourth and newest simulation center. Directs daily operations of the Patient Safety Institute and is responsible for performance evaluations and budget development. She also established an institutional research agenda for the Patient Safety Institute. In her role as Vice President of Interprofessional Education she will enhance the strategic importance of interprofessional education focusing on teamwork and collaboration among the health care teams in the health system.
She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and is a board certified family nurse practitioner. Dr. DeVoe received a certificate as a comprehensive instructor in Medical Simulation from the Center for Medical Simulation, Harvard University.
Dr. DeVoe is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, The American Association of Critical Care Nurses, The Society for Simulation in Healthcare, The National Patient Safety Foundation, Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and a grant reviewer for The Health Resources and Services Administration. Dr. DeVoe is an Assistant Professor of Science Education at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. Her research interests include providing interprofessional education using simulation as a teaching modality to enhance communication and teamwork behaviors among interprofessional teams.
