Bio:
Rebecca Curry, assistant professor of political science, received the B.A. from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1991. At the University of California at Berkeley, she earned both the J.D. (2002) and a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy (2008). Her dissertation tracked the development of federal campaign finance law to explain both the power of courts in this policy area and the role of the judicial process in policy implementation.
Dr. Curry teaches courses on constitutional law, civil liberties, and the judicial process, as well as general courses in American politics.
Her scholarly focus is in separation of powers, judicial review, the First Amendment and election law. In 2000-2001, she was awarded the Olin Fellowship in Law, Economics and Institutions as well as Berkeley Law's “Best Brief” moot court award. In 2001, she served as summer associate at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Los Angeles.
Her most recent work includes a paper entitled, “Soft Money's Answer to 'Soft Law': Campaign Finance Regulation, Constitutionalism and New Governance,” presented at the International Conference on Law and Society in the 21st Century in Berlin (2007). She currently directs Hofstra's Legal Education Accelerated Program (LEAP).
