Bio:
Martin L. Lesser, PhD, has been Director of the Biostatistics Unit and Investigator at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research since he founded it in 1985. He is also Professor in the Departments of Molecular Medicine and Population Health at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, Professor at the Elmezzi Graduate School of Molecular Medicine, as well as Chair of IRB Committee "B" at the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Dr. Lesser’s areas of expertise are clinical trials and clinical epidemiology and has authored co-authored over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has been involved in the design, implementation and/or statistical analysis of hundreds of research studies, most notably in the areas of medical oncology, surgical oncology, HIV/AIDS, neurology, infertility, emergency medicine, psychiatry and internal medicine. He has been principal statistician or co-investigator on numerous grants and contracts funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other prestigious funding agencies.
Dr. Lesser is a past president and founding member of the Association of General Clinical Research Center Statisticians and has served on dozens of NIH grant review committees. He has taught courses in biostatistics and research study design for over 30 years.
