Bio

Chandler Carter holds a Ph.D. in composition from the City University of New York, where he studied with Thea Musgrave and David Del Tredici and received the 1995 Barry Brook award for best music dissertation. Carter also holds master's degrees in composition and vocal performance from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina.
His music — which includes over 50 songs, choral, chamber and orchestral works and three operas — has been performed throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe by numerous distinguished recitalists and ensembles. He has received several awards, including two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and prizes for his Mass, Symphony for Winds and Canticle I for tenor and orchestra.
