John Meindl is founder, president and CEO of SPORTSBRANDEDMEDIA, INC., the company is a convergence of sport and entertainment. With expertise across all sports disciplines and media platforms, Mr. Meindl is a visionary and industry pioneer, creating ideas and solutions to meet the challenges of today’s changing sports landscape. John is an innovator in “sports” product placement and the first to combine that specialty with expertise in sport marketing, branding and coordination to provide total sports solutions in mass media.
As a Sports Marketing Consultant, Mr. Meindl has worked with countless sports properties and brands providing strategic and tactical expertise for those seeking to connect with the sports consumer.
With deep ties in both sport and entertainment, Mr. Meindl brings a unique perspective and sports business acumen to both industries. John and his company have provided sports solutions and produced over 30 major motion pictures and television shows including; Failure to Launch, The Perfect Game, Crash, The Express, Glee and more. John got his start in film as executive producer on an award winning indie starring three members of The Sopranos. He was recently executive producer of Johnny Got His Gun starring Ben McKenzie and producer of Poet Pride, a documentary about Dunbar H.S. basketball. John is currently producing a show about NFL fans and ‘Ruffo’ a documentary on legendary big wave surfer, Anthony Ruffo. Next up for Mr. Meindl is The Pottsville Maroons, a co-production with Penny Marshall and Rowan Joseph.
John is presently an Adj. Asst. Professor of Sport Marketing- having recently developed a new sport business management curriculum for a NY area graduate school. With 20 years in sports business, he is a published writer and speaker in the areas of sports marketing and sports production. A thought leader, with a knack for telling it straight, John is often called upon to provide expert commentary. He has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Newsday, and many more. As a speaker and lecturer, Mr. Meindl has appeared at Providence College, Iona College, Baruch, Brooklyn College, NYIT, NJIT, to name a few. He is also a frequent guest speaker at sports and entertainment conferences. Most recently John was part of Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series at Quinnipiac University and addressed The Caucus of Producers, Writers & Directors in Hollywood where he spoke about “Turning Ideas Into Opportunities.”
Prior to starting SPORTSBRANDEDMEDIA, John owned and operated Prestige Golf Ltd. There he headed the marketing efforts and started the Corporate / Tournament Division, working with and teaching Long Island Charities how to raise money through golf tournaments. At the same time Mr. Meindl founded Gold Coast Trading Corp., where in conjunction with Top-Flite Golf he developed golf gift products and a new channel of distribution to supermarkets chains across the country. He was also successful in selling golf equipment to the Mass Merchants, Big Box Stores and Discounters, including Costco, BJ’s, Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire and more.
A former soccer goalkeeper and college head coach, Mr. Meindl has been a strong advocate for inner city and underprivileged youth…. “Using sport as a vehicle to include the excluded.” He is the youngest board member appointed to the Nassau County Sports Commission, where he was a member of the working selection committee for the first “John Mackey Award,” given to the nation’s top college tight end, along with legendary NFL tight ends and members of the sports media. He has also served on the Business Advisory Board, LIU-Southampton College, and the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greenpoint, NY. John holds a bachelor’s degree in politics from The Catholic University of America and a master’s degree in sport marketing from Adelphi University.
