Bio:
Dr. Basile holds a B.B.A. in accounting from Hofstra University where he graduated with highest honors distinction, an M.S. in taxation from Long Island University and a Ph.D. from New York University. As an undergraduate Dr. Basile assisted in the research and editing of two textbooks and a review book. In order to earn the highest honors distinction, Dr. Basile wrote and orally defended a thesis on international accounting standards. He is licensed as a certified public accountant in New York State.
Dr. Basile began his career with the international accounting firm of Laventhol & Horwath and then Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company (now KMPG Peat Marwick LLP). He is currently a principal in a local accounting firm, specializing in the audit, tax and consulting concerns of small- to medium-sized businesses.
Dr. Basile’s research has been published in the accounting, taxation, education and legal areas. He co-authored a chapter in a popular accounting text published by John Wiley & Sons and wrote an article highlighting the Hofstra V.I.T.A. program in Business Education Forum. He authored an article on tax savings in the CPA Journal and co-authored two articles on insurance fraud for law journals. He teaches accounting courses as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Zarb School of Business and has been a guest lecturer at New York Chiropractors College, Suffolk Life and Small Business Administration workshops. Most recently he presented the technology section of the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession Board Conference at Hofstra. He has been an expert witness in several cases involving business valuations and a guest on several radio stations, speaking on technical and business issues. Based on that expertise, Dr. Basile has just been engaged to write the business valuation standards for the entire accounting profession.
Dr. Basile is the faculty adviser to the Hofstra Tax Society and has served on the Computer Subcommittee for the Zarb School of Business. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs.
