Bio:
Professor Richard Picciochi earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in the natural sciences and a Master of Science with a concentration in forensic science. His area of specialization is in handwriting and document analysis, in which he has received extensive formal training. He has been a forensic document examiner and expert witness since 1982, having been qualified to testify at all levels from civil hearings to federal courts. He is retired from the NYPD forensic laboratory, having worked as detective, document analyst, and technical supervisor in the Questioned Document Section. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners that certifies those who are specialists in forensic document examination. During his career he has been involved in thousands of questioned document investigations and has testified at high-profile trials, including the “Zodiac” homicides and terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Professor Picciochi has helped develop and co-teach our Survey of Forensic Science course and is now teaching his own course in Digital Imaging for Forensic Applications. This course introduces students to methods of visual documentation, evidence analysis and demonstrative aids in court.
