Bio:

Professor Katz has a B.B.A. in accounting from The City College of New York, a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and an L.L.M. in taxation from New York University.

Professor Katz has worked as a field agent and district conferee for the IRS and later was in charge of the tax department of an accounting firm. For more than 30 years Professor Katz has served as a tax consultant specializing in estate planning and probate and all areas of tax planning.

Professor Katz was a contributing editor for the CCH Federal Tax Course. Professor Katz has authored a book titled Federal Income Tax, which was used to prepare candidates for the CPA examination. In addition, he was the contributing editor for the “Estate and Gift Tax” section of the Handbook of Wealth Management and has authored a chapter on capital gains taxation for the Handbook of Financial Markets. He has also written articles published in professional tax journals and has lectured extensively on taxation before professional groups such as Dauberman & Chaykin CPE programs, the New York State Bar Association and the New York State Society of CPAs. In addition, he lectures extensively throughout the area to certified public accountants on behalf of Katz Tax Seminars.

Professor Katz was the recipient of the Hofstra University Distinguished Teaching Award in 1978. For 20 years he organized and supervised the Hofstra Tax Preparation Program under which accounting students prepare tax returns free of charge for senior citizens and needy taxpayers throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. He received the Commissioner of Internal Revenue Service’s highest award for community service for his efforts on behalf of this program.

Professor Katz is a member of the Nassau County and American Bar Associations and is admitted to practice before United States District Courts and the United States Tax Court.
