An alumnus of Hofstra, Hewan has been on the faculty of the Global Studies and Geography department since 2010. She holds a Masters degree from Fordham University’s IPED program, a multi-disciplinary approach to economic development. She is currently working on her PhD in Global Sociology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her research interests include transnational migration, Race and Ethnicity, Identity, Stratification, with a regional focus on Africa. She has worked for several INGOs and United Nations agencies on projects as varied as HIV/AIDS, biodiversity, and poverty alleviation. She loves experiencing new cultures first-hand, and has consequently travelled to over 20 countries and is fluent in more than three languages.
