Peter W. Goodman teaches news reporting and writing, and editorial and review writing. He is a veteran journalist who spent most of his career at Newsday, on Long Island, NY. He was a classical music critic, as well as a reporter and editor who covered the arts on Long Island, in New York City and elsewhere in the United States and Canada. Before that, he worked on the copy desk at the Hartford (CT) Courant and as a courts and police reporter at the Springfield (MA) Union. As a critic he has traveled across the country and in Europe, reviewing the work of major orchestras and opera companies from New York to San Francisco. He has covered all aspects of American cultural activities, from major construction projects to strikes and bankruptcies. He has written for publications including the Juilliard Journal, the New York Philharmonic Playbill and Lincoln Center, Inc. He is the author of "Morton Gould: American Salute," the only biography of this important American composer. His research interests include the effects of the internet on the cultural life of the United States. He is also involved in research for Hofstra's National Center for Suburban Studies.
