Bio:
Dr. Rai received an M.A. in economics from Delhi University, India, and an M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. He earned a Ph.D. in international business with a minor in finance and economics at Indiana University, where he was awarded a teaching fellowship for four years. In his dissertation he developed two theoretical models to explain the phenomenon of credit rationing in international lending and also tested empirically for results derived in the theoretical papers.
Before joining the faculty at Hofstra, Dr. Rai taught as an assistant professor at the University of Vermont and as a graduate instructor at Indiana University.
Dr. Rai's current research interests focus on international financial markets and institutions. His articles have been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Economics and Business, Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Journal of Futures Markets, the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, the Journal of International Finance and Financial Management.
He has presented papers at several national and international finance conferences. Some of his recent works include research on the impact of standardized models in risk management and the effects of financial liberalization on European insurance firms.
Professor Rai has taught at several other institutions as a visiting or adjunct professor, including the Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands, the University of Catania in Sicily, Italy, and New York University and for Rutgers University in Singapore. He has also conducted seminars on risk management to bankers from Russia and its newly independent states and the Netherlands Antilles.
