Associate Professor Barnes earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical and school psychology from Hofstra University in 1980, after obtaining a B.A. in mathematics from Colgate University. He joined the Hofstra School of Business faculty in 1980 and the Psychology Department in 1983. Dr. Barnes teaches courses in statistics and research methods, and has served as director of the undergraduate studies program.
He is a licensed psychologist, a charter member of the Center for Teaching Excellence, and was the 1985 recipient of the Hofstra University Distinguished Teaching Award. His interests include attitudes towards people of color and non-intellective correlates of academic achievement. He has given presentations at the Eastern Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association, and has published in such publications as the Adolescence, Anthrozoos, the Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, and Teaching of Psychology.
