Dr. Weinstein earned her Ph.D. with honors in Educational Research: Emphasis in Counseling, an M.S. in School and Community Health and a B.S. in Health & Physical Education.
Over her career at Hofstra, she served as the Chairperson of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences as well as the first Chair of the Department of Health Professions and Family Studies. Her administrative activities also included developing and directing the graduate programs in both health administration and health education and her teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in both majors.

Dr. Weinstein’s love of, and commitment to teaching during her tenure at Hofstra has been recognized through honors awarded by both professional associations and the Hofstra community including: the Distinguished Service Award for a Professional from the New York State Federation For Professional Health Educators; Outstanding Professional of the Year from the Eastern District Association- of the American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance;  Faculty of the Year elected by the membership  of  the Part-Time, Graduate and Evening Student Senate (PAGESS) at Hofstra University; and the distinguished Stessin Prize for Outstanding Faculty Scholarship from Hofstra University.

Dr. Weinstein’s interest in community health has afforded her the opportunity to serve on several committees appointed by elected official in Nassau County and as a consultant to several agencies and organizations that serve the public’s health. She served as the Co- Chairperson of an appointed committee to study the unevenness of peri-natal and post-natal infant mortality across Nassau County and recently on the County Executives Committee “Common Sense for Common Good” dealing with unintended pregnancy prevention.  

Dr. Weinstein’s extensive publication record as an author and co-author includes several textbooks,  chapters in edited volumes, and an array of journal articles that cross a variety of disciplines including health education, health administration and sex and marital therapy. Among the journals that published these articles are the: Journal of Prevention & Intervention in the Community; Journal of  Family Medical Practice & Primary Care; Journal of Sex Education & Therapy; Journal of Health Administration Education; Journal of College Health; Adolescence,; Journal of Health Education,; J. of the American Dietetic Assoc; The Australian and  New Zealand Journal of  Family Therapy, Journal of Ambulatory Care Marketing; International Journal of Aging and Human Development. She has presented numerous papers and workshops at international, national and regional professional conferences among them the:  Association for the Advancement of Health Education’s Annual National Conventions; Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality; American School Health Association; American Association of Sex Educators Counselors & Therapists

Her primary research interest is in the area of human sexuality across the life cycle.  While many of her articles address adolescent sexuality, her Senior Adult Sexuality Scales, a measurement instrument represents her interest in sexuality and aging and is included in a compendium of sexuality related measures published by Graphic Publishing Co.   Dr. Weinstein is a certified sex therapist and a New York State licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in sex and marital therapy.
