Professor Lyn joined Hofstra in 1982 after graduating from CUNY where she was awarded a Ph.D. in Finance and the Oscar Lasdon Prize for Best Dissertation. Her teaching areas include corporate finance, portfolio management, international finance, money and capital markets, and research methodology in finance. In 2005, she was installed as the C.V. Starr Distinguished Professor in Finance and International Financial Services.
Dr. Lyn served as the Vice Dean of the Frank G. Zarb School of Business and as Chairperson of the Department of Finance. She was the co-founding Director of the Center for International Financial Services and Markets (formerly the Merrill Lynch Center for the Study of International Financial Services and Markets).
Dr. Lyn’s areas of specialization include international finance and investments, corporate restructuring, corporate governance and socially responsible investing. Dr. Lyn has been the editor-in-chief of Corporate Finance Review and has published numerous articles in national and international academic journals such as the Journal of Financial Research, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Multinational Finance Journal, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Investing, Journal of Applied Finance, and Journal of Financial Education. In 1997, an article she co-authored on foreign direct investments for the Journal of International Business Studies, the premier journal in international business, was chosen as one of the five most influential papers of the decade. She has been the recipient of the Beta Gamma Sigma Faculty and Chapter Honoree Awards, the Hofstra University Distinguished Service Award and the Dean’s Service Award.
Dr. Lyn has taught at the University of the Philippines and Erasmus University. She has conducted executive seminars and workshops and given speeches in the United States and abroad. She has been a finance officer at the United Nations and also has previous experience at Integrated Resources and Smith Barney Shearson.
Dr. Lyn serves as the Board Chairperson of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, the leading think tank on women’s issues. She also serves as Board Director/Second Vice Chair of NEFCU, a $2 Billion credit union in NY, and Board Director/Treasurer of the Global ShareResource Foundation.
