Bio:

Professor MacCary teaches mostly Shakespeare at Hofstra, though all his degress are in Classical Philology (i.e. Greek and Latin Languages and Literature). His life-long research interest is in Shakespeare's use of classical sources; recently he has concentrated on the influence of Aristotle in particular. Books include Plautus, Casina: The Latin Text Edited, with Introduction and Metrical Appendices (Cambridge, 1976); Childlike Achilles: Ontogeny and Phylogeny in the Iliad (Columbia, 1983); Friends and Lovers: The Phenomenology of Desire in Shakespearean Comedy (Columbia, 1985); and Hamlet: A Guide to the Play (Greenwood Press, 1997). He enjoys traveling to Shakespearen sites - this summer Hamlet's castle in Elsinore, and Bermuda, where the shipwreck in the Tempest took place.
