Bio:
Professor Maccarrone received a B.B.A. in public accounting from Hofstra University in 1976 and a J.D. from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1981. He is licensed in New York State as a certified public accountant and admitted to practice as an attorney at law.
As an undergraduate student at Hofstra, Professor Maccarrone served as president of the Accounting Society and as vice president of Hofstra’s Delta Pi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, of which he is a chapter charter member. He was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Delta Pi Chapter for 1993. Professor Maccarrone also served as a member of the School of Business Student Advisory Board. He is a member of Theta of New York, Hofstra’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma.
At Hofstra Law School Professor Maccarrone was actively involved in Hofstra’s Tax Clinic, a free clinic aiding taxpayers who needed but could not afford legal counsel on tax matters.
Professor Maccarrone was employed as a senior accountant at the accounting firm Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) and also served as manager of internal audit at Applied Devices Corporation. Professor Maccarrone was a partner in the accounting firm Vogel & Rutledge.
At Hofstra Professor Maccarrone has served as Assistant Dean in the School of Business, Acting Associate Dean, Interim Director of Graduate Studies in Business, and Assistant Chair of the Department of Accounting and Business Law. In 1990 he was awarded Hofstra’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Professor Maccarrone has extensive experience in preparing CPA exam candidates. He directs Maccarrone + O’Brien Inc., providing continuing professional education to CPAs.
Professor Maccarrone teaches legal studies in business and accounting courses at Hofstra. He is the author of a number of articles and texts on accounting, auditing, ethics, taxation and other legal topics. In addition, he maintains a law practice on Long Island.
