Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – CNN Special Correspondent Soledad O’Brien and The Washington Post Columnist Eugene H. Robinson will discuss “Race, Diversity and a New America” at Hofstra University on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 3 p.m. in John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus. The discussion will be moderated by Acting Dean of Hofstra’s School of Communication Cliff Jernigan.
Soledad O’Brien is an anchor and special correspondent for CNN: Special Investigations Unit. Reporting hour-long documentaries throughout the year and filing in-depth series on the most important ongoing and breaking news stories for all major CNN programs. Most recently, she has reported for the critically acclaimed CNN Presents: Black in America, a sweeping CNN on-air and digital initiative breaking new ground in revealing the current state of Black America 40 years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program features six hours of documentaries and weekly reports with a focus on fresh analysis from new voices about the real lives behind the stereotypes, statistics and identity politics that frequently frame the national dialogue about Black America.
Eugene H. Robinson uses his twice-weekly column in The Washington Post to pick American society apart and then put it back together again in unexpected and revelatory new ways. To do this job of demolition and reassembly, he relies on a large and varied tool kit: energy, curiosity, elegant writing and the wide-ranging experience of a life that took him from childhood in the segregated South to the heights of American Journalism. Mr. Robinson is a member of the National Association of Black Journalist and has received numerous journalism awards including the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for his commentary on the 2008 presidential race.
