Alumni Take Their Talent to NYC Stage
"On The Rocks" – Written, Directed, Produced and Starring Hofstra Talent
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY … On The Rocks: The Unsolved Mysteries of Jack and Sal, an original full-length stage noir comedy written, directed and starring Hofstra alumni Louis Aquiler and Chris D’Amato, will be performed at the 133rd Street Arts Center, December 13-22, 2012. The theater is located at 308 West 133rd Street in Harlem.
On The Rocks was originally performed as a series of weekly episodes at Hofstra University’s Cabaret, a weekly open mic night presented by drama students. This irreverent, over-the-top, and emotional stage production is a ripping parody and loving homage to the detective genre. The play is set in Chicago, 1922. Jack Bullet is a miserable and nasty private detective. Against his will, he finds himself partnered with Sal Malone, a jolly and all-around swell guy. They start taking cases, and an unlikely friendship develops over the course of this outrageous murder, romance and mystery story.
Aquiler and D’Amato both graduated from Hofstra in 2009. Many other Hofstra alumni and even a faculty member help to round out the talent behind this production. On The Rocks is produced by the Synapse Theatre Ensemble, which is run by Hofstra alumni Jeremy Benson ‘09 and Lauren Cook ’10. The show features lighting design is by Matt Rubin ’08, set design by Gary Ferrar ‘06, sound design by Brendan Bailey ‘10, and costume design by Laura Duell ‘11, and marketing by Christian Titus ’12.
The cast also includes Christopher Dippel, who is an adjunct professor of drama at Hofstra, and alumni Richie Pepio ’10, Andrew Huber ’10, Laura Henry ’10, Lily Goodman ’09, Pat Harman ’11, and Lauren Cook ’10.
