Hofstra Welcomes Students from Tokyo Future University
Twelve Students Take ESL Courses and Daytrips Into New York City and Around Long Island
Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY …A group of 12 students from Tokyo Future University (TFU) is visiting Hofstra University to participate in an ESL (English as a Second Language) program from August 1 to 15, 2010. They are learning about American culture, exploring Long Island and New York City and taking language courses.
The Japanese students, with career interests in counseling or early childhood education, have had the opportunity to learn about educational and psychological services for families and children in the United States. All of the students have volunteered time at Hofstra’s Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute, located at the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center.
"Tokyo Future University at Hofstra" was developed by Dean Toshiaki Kondo '98, a graduate of Hofstra's Combined Ph.D. Program in Clinical & School Psychology, and Professor Manami Tanaka of TFU. Helping to coordinate the programming and logistics for the students is S. Stavros Valenti, Professor of Psychology and Senior Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs.
