Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY: Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY: The Rosenberg Gallery at Calkins Hall, South Campus, will present a 1 x 3 meter (approximately 3.25 x 10 feet) “diagrammatic narrative” about the future of design titled “A Day in the Life of a Networked Designer’s Smart Things Or a Day in a Designer’s Networked Smart Things, 2030.” The work is by Hofstra Fine Arts Professor Tom Klinkowstein, Irene Pereyra and others.
This design will be on display October 8 to November 4, 2008, with an opening reception and gallery talk by Professor Klinkowstein on October 8 at 11:15 a.m.
This diagrammatic narrative represents a day in a fictional designer’s life during the year 2030 as she interacts with and is guided by her smart things – objects, systems, and environments with embedded intelligence that has conversational and sensory capabilities. It suggests a society in which smart things have civic and commercial agency like that of the people with whom they share terrestrial and extra-terrestrial environments.
