Hofstra University Presents "The Actor's Life": Anecdotes and Career Advice from Successful Hofstra Drama Alumni

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY …  As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, Hofstra University is presenting “The Actor’s Life,” which will feature alumni from Hofstra’s drama program sharing anecdotes about performing on the Hofstra stage and how they parlayed that experience into successful careers in acting. This event will take place on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Lowenfeld Conference and Exhibition Hall, located on the 10th floor of the Axinn Library. Admission is free. Panelists include:

Joan See, Class of 1955,
founder of the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts and founder Three of Us Studios, the largest and most successful casting facility on the East Coast. Professionally trained by Sanford Meisner, Joan started her acting career over 30 years ago and has appeared in over 300 commercials. She has had the pleasure of working with such distinguished actors as Julia Roberts, Paul Newman and Eva Gabor.

Susan Sullivan, Class of  1964, currently stars as Martha Rodgers in ABC's Castle. The two-time Emmy and Golden Globe nominee is well known to television audiences for her starring roles in the long-running hits Dharma & Greg and Falcon Crest. In addition to her series roles, she has starred in numerous features and made-for-television movies, including My Best Friend's Wedding, The Incredible Hulk, Midway, A Perfect Stranger and Rich Man, Poor Man.

Tim Errickson, Class of 1993, is the artistic director of Boomerang Theatre Company. His new play, Endless Summer Nights, recently premiered with Boomerang in September 2010, and was a “Pick of the Week” by nytheatre.com. Previous Boomerang credits include directing productions of Fenway, Burning the Old Man (six NYIT nominations, including Outstanding Direction), Stoppard Goes Electric, Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It.

Fred Berman, Class of 1994, is currently starring as Timon in Broadway's The Lion King. He has appeared in numerous critically acclaimed Off-Broadway productions, including The Public Theatre's revival of The Normal Heart, Transport Group's Bury the Dead, Room Service at the Soho Playhouse, the cult favorite Shockheaded Peter at The Little Shubert, as well as The Vocal Lords, HollywoodNurses and How Now Dow Jones.

Kelly Ruth Cole, Class of  2008, received a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts. Her Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) Stage Management credits include My Heart in a Suitcase (Artspower - National Tour); Turnabout (Ensemble Studio Theatre); Hip Hop High - The Musical (NYC Fringe Festival);  New Voices Festival (New School for Drama, ASM); The Night Season & Tommy (Baystreet Theatre, ASM).  Also a playwright, her plays Peter and Words were produced by Dreamcatcher Theatreworks, where she serves as owner and artistic director.
