Hofstra's Day of Dialogue V: Our World, Our Future

All-Day Multi-Event Discussion on Issues that Face Our World

Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY – Hofstra's Day of Dialogue V, a daylong event consisting of  panels, lectures, discussions and performances designed to inform students about and engage them in  the major issues of our time, will take place Wednesday, October 24, 2007 throughout the campus.

Highlights of the day, sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement at Hofstra University, include:

America's Wealth Gap - A Town Hall Meeting of students and other citizens

Windows to Guernica - Exploring the role of art, music, and memory in evaluating the aftermath of civil war. The program features excerpts from a five-movement trio for violin, cello and piano by Spanish composer Octavio Vazquez written to commemorate Guernica, played before testimonials and images from survivors of the Spanish Civil War as collected by Hofstra Honors College students Matthew Ferry and Michael LaFemina. Discussion to follow.

Iraq and the Middle East/Which Way Iraq? - Two debates featuring Tom Basile, Hofstra alumnus and a former Bush administration senior press advisor, and Stony Brook Prof. Michael Schwartz, a sociologist and Iraq war commentator who has written for online sites TomDispatch, Common Dreams and HuffingtonPost.
