Mail Center
Housed in Butler Annex, the Mail Center provides delivery and pickup service for thousands of Hofstra’s incoming, outgoing and interoffi ce mail pieces every day for administrators, faculty, and staff. As the University’s liaison with the U.S. Postal Service, the Mail Center assists with first-class, certified, express, insured, priority, and registered mail. The Mail Center makes UPS’s CampusShip Desktop Service available on any office computer. When processing either first-class or nonprofit bulk mail, the Mail Center often simplifies mailings with its addressing system and inserting machine. Mail Center suggestions on mail piece design, mailing formats, and list management often optimize delivery time and minimize costs.

The necessary Adobe plug-in is available through the Help Desk and can be installed on most computers. Please call the Help Desk at x3-7777 for information.
USPS Changes Address Placement for Discounted Flat-Size Envelopes
To get USPS discounts on bulk, first-class mail, the Mail Center presorts flat-size envelopes (essentially anything larger than the average letter-size envelope.) This saves the University, on average, 18 cents per piece (or 13.5 percent.) To be eligible for these discounts, recent USPS changes in the placement of the recipient’s address must be followed when addressing flat-size envelopes. Download this PDF of specifications below to make sure you can take advantage of these savings.
If you have questions regarding the addressing of flat-size envelopes, please contact Janine Macedo, Mail Center manager, at ext. 3-4737 or via e-mail.
