Dance and Culture.

Major publications/accomplishments:
Continuing dance performances with Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, choreography for theatre productions, choreography for dance productions on and off Hofstra campus, teaching Pilates in Forces of Nature’s studio and a physical therapy office in Manhattan, and teaching at Princeton University.

Interesting hobbies?
Reading, studying Khemet, learning about African art and culture as it impacts American culture.

Why did you go into your field?
Initially I just wanted to dance. As I matured and experienced a variety of styles, I realized my responsibility to share all the information that I have amassed to prepare the next generation in their evolution of the Art and Culture of Dance in America.

Favorite class to teach?
I find joy in each class, whether non-major, major, Pilates or the course I introduced :The American Experience and Africanist Dance Practices”.

Why do you like to teach?
I enjoy watching the light turn on in the minds of those who I teach.

What do you hope your students learn from you?  
I hope they learn compassion and acceptance of all things new and different. I hope their minds are expanded.

What general advice about college would you give students?
I recommend that they take advantage of every opportunity that they even remotely find interesting, EVERY OPPORTUNITY. This time in their lives is precious, take full advantage of each experience.

What general advice about life would you give students?
It is what YOU MAKE IT.

Best Hofstra memory:
Being recognized for 10 years of service…and rehearsing for the Fall concert at the same time!!

What do you take the most “Pride” in:
Being a member of this academic community.

What have you found as your “Purpose?”
...to continue to share my life, my knowledge, my experiences to better equip students...
