Sicko

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore saw the release of his newest film Sicko in June 2007. Whether you are or are not a fan of his work, there is little argument that the picture he presents of America’s health care industry is disturbing. Here at Hofstra, we asked some members of the faculty who are knowledgeable about the health care system to see the movie and provide their own reviews.

"Survivor: Cook Islands"

"Survivor: Cook Islands" stirred controversy this summer when it was announced that the 20 contestants would be divided into four teams based on race: African-Americans, Latinos, Caucasians and Asians. The season premiere aired on Thursday, September 14, 2006. Three Hofstra faculty members and one administrator watched the first episode and offer their opinions on the direction of television's most popular reality program.

The Da Vinci Code

The controversial film adaptation of Dan Brown's bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code brings the worlds of religion, art, literature and history together on the big screen. Taking a look at this convergence from an academic perspective, five Hofstra professors shared their expert opinions on the results.
