Web-Based Indexes/Abstracts

ERIC

The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a national information system designed to provide users with ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature. The database, established in 1966, contains more than 1 million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice.


Dissertation Abstracts Online

The database covers dissertations accepted at accredited U.S institutions since 1861, in a full range of academic subjects. It selectively covers master?s theses, Canadian dissertations, and British and other European dissertations. It covers 1861 to the present and includes abstracts for doctoral dissertations beginning July 1980 and for master?s theses beginning spring 1988. New records are added monthly.


Education Abstracts

Provides coverage of every age and sector of the educational community from preschool through college. Citations to articles are taken from English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the United States and elsewhere. It also includes selected book review citations. Electronic coverage began in 1983. Prior to 1983 the index is paper-based and titled Education Index.


Government Documents Catalog

Contains more than 450,000 records for documents printed by the U.S. government. It covers all types of U. S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.). Each record contains a bibliographic citation. Materials from July 1976 to the present are covered.


Government Periodical Universe
(via Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe)

The U.S. government agencies publish approximately 170 magazines and newsletters with substantial research value. Government Periodical Universe provides detailed subject and author indexing to access this body of literature and is updated quarterly. Each update covers more than 2,000 articles of research value.


PsycINFO

Formerly titled PsycLIT, this is the international database for the professional literature of psychology and allied fields. The database covers the literature back to 1887, and it includes book chapters as well as the journal literature of the field.


WorldCat

This is the OCLC Online Union Catalog containing over 41,000,000 bibliographic records of OCLC?s member libraries. These materials include: books, computer data files, computer programs, films and slides, journals, magazines, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, newspapers, sound recordings, and videotapes. It does not include book chapters or individual articles in journals, magazines, and newspapers.
