This index includes more than one thousand articles which have appeared in journals and conference volumes. It includes all articles from 1988 to 2000 in journals currently devoted to Long Island history, i.e., the Long Island Forum, Long Island Historical Journal, Nassau County Historical Society Journal, Oyster Bay Historical Society Freeholder, and Three Village Historian, as well as articles in the Journal of Long Island History (published 1961-1982), Long Island Courant (published 1965-1967), Long Island Historical Society Quarterly (published 1939-1942), and New York History (1940-2000). Selected articles are included from the New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, Quarterly of the Huntington Historical Society (published 1961-1986), and Suffolk County Historical Society Register. Articles from conference volumes include thirteen Long Island Studies Institute publications and East Hampton's 350th Anniversary Lecture Series volume. An Appendix has a Bibliography of Book Reviews from 1961-2000. Other appendices include the publishing history of the indexed journals and bibliographies on Long Island studies.

Editor
Natalie A. Naylor was Director of the Long Island Studies Institute from 1985-2000, and edited several Long Island Studies Institute publications. Dr. Naylor taught American and Long Island history at Hofstra University and is now Professor Emerita.
