Off Campus Housing Information

Did you know that the Division of Student Affairs at Hofstra University serves students living near campus? Well we do, and the Office of Commuting Students is here to help! If you are renting a house or an apartment in the local community, we have useful information geared to your specific needs. We are here to help you with questions that may arise and to provide helpful information due to your unique living arrangements, more specifically information gathered from the Town and Village of Hempstead.

As a local resident, you have the unique perspective of being a member of two communities - Hofstra University and The Town of Hempstead. You have both rights and responsibilities as a member of these communities. As a tenant, you have rights and responsibilities specific to the agreements of your lease. As a member of the Hofstra community, you have academic responsibilities as well. We understand with your academic schedule, your work agenda and your co curricular involvement, not only are you extremely busy, but you may require different hours of operating than others around you. You may now find your new neighbors hold more traditional schedules. Those who may work early mornings, those with children and families and the elderly may be among those living next door to you, and we remind you to be mindful of their rights as members of the community as well. Unreasonable noise can become a problem in our neighborhood and it can be very disruptive to those living around you. It is important for you to know the Town of Hempstead has defined the standard of tolerance for such noise. We urge you to be considerate of your neighbors so that all may lead their daily lives without interference. Please visit the Town of Hempstead website for more information at http://www.townofhempstead.org.

The Office of Commuting Student Affairs is a resource for your needs, so we encourage you to visit us in room 221 Student Center. In addition to finding a plethora of campus contacts, you will also find useful information about off campus services. Thank you for your cooperation and for being such vibrant members of our community.
