Summer Orientation Checklist

Before You Attend Orientation
Follow this simple checklist to prepare for New Student Orientation

  • Read this brochure to prepare for New Student Orientation.
  • Obtain your Hofstra network ID and password; you will need this information to register for orientation.
  • (Contact Student Computing Services at (516) 463-7777 if you do not have this information.)
  • Indicate your top three orientation date preferences online (see your Welcome Packet from admissions for details)
  • Review your first-semester academic program options online prior to attending orientation.
  • Register your parents/family members for Parent and Family Orientation online.
  • Check your Hofstra e-mail account for your orientation confirmation.
  • Read the common reading material that will be used as the basis for the model class during orientation. (You will receive more information about it in the confirmation e-mail.)
  • Complete your math and foreign language placement exams online. (Instructions are provided in your confirmation e-mail.)
  • Complete and return medical record forms included in the Welcome Folder.
  • Join the "Hofstra Class of 2013" group on Facebook.
  • Pack list of recommended items (including this brochure) that you should bring to orientation.

*Note: Please bring your Orientation brochure with you to your New Student Orientation session.

During Your New Student Orientation Session
Here are some things to look forward to:

  • Meet and connect with fellow students from Hofstra's Class of 2013.
  • Experience living in a residence hall.
  • Learn about your degree requirements and the resources available to you to help you achieve your goals.
  • Meet Hofstra faculty and be part of a model class.
  • Meet with your assigned advisement dean from University Advisement to discuss your placement test results and your academic program for the first semester.
  • Learn more about the Hofstra portal and e-mail.
  • Explore Hofstra's 240-acre campus.
  • Show-off your talent at our open mic and "Hofstra Idol" auditions.
  • Learn about campus resources and opportunities for new students.
  • Take your photo at HofstraCard Services for your student ID.
  • Register your vehicle with Public Safety.
  • Register for your fall classes.

After New Student Orientation

  • Prepare for the fall semester.
  • Participate in Welcome Week (August 27-September 1, 2009).
  • Begin classes (September 2, 2009).
  • Attend New Student Convocation (September 2, 2009).
