Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How and when will I get paid?

A: RSRs are paid every two weeks (on the 15th of the month and the last day of the month). If the 15th or last day happens to fall on a weekend, paychecks are distributed on the preceding Friday. Checks can be picked up at the Payroll office between the hours of 10 A.M. and 5 P.M. If you live off campus, checks can be mailed to your home address. Another option is Direct Deposit to your bank account.

Q: How do I apply for Direct Deposit?

A: After receipt of your first pay check, you can arrange to have direct deposit to your bank account, with check stubs mailed to you. You will need to visit the Payroll office with your bank account information for this.

Q: Why haven’t I been paid?

A: It may be that you have not completed your application folder. Have you filled out all the forms, including tax forms? Have you brought in identification documents required to complete your I-9 Employment Eligibility Form? Have you filled out your work permit?

In addition, if you worked from the first of the month to the 15th, you will not be paid for those hours until the end of the month.

Q: How are shifts set?

A: Between the hours of 2000 (8 PM) and 0800 (8 AM), shifts are set in 4-hour blocks. Between the hours of 0800 and 2000 hours, the shifts are set in 2-hour blocks. Shifts always begin on the even hours: 0000, 0400, 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, and 2000.

Q: How many hours can I work?

A: Permanent RSRs must work a minimum of 4 hours per week and a maximum of 24 hours per week on a permanent basis when classes are in session. During the winter and summer breaks, students may work 40 hours per week.

Q: What are the pay rates?

A: View pay rates.

Q: What do I do if I am unable to work my assigned shift?

A: RSRs are responsible for permanent shifts for the entire semester as outlined in the specific agreement of hours. Holidays and days off from school are included. If unable to work a shift for any reason, RSRs are required to find a substitute RSR to cover that shift. The Resident Safety office has a SUB LIST of RSRs you can call when looking for a sub. Always make substitute agreements in writing by using the Substitute Request Forms available in each RSR booth and the Resident Safety office.
