

Hofstra University is one of a few Universities throughout the country that uniquely features two mascots: Kate and Willie Pride, a lion and lioness. The two mascots are named after the University's benefactors William Hofstra and his wife Kate Davidson.
In summer 2001 a team of university officials under the direction of President Emeritus James M. Shuart developed and designed what is today known as Kate Pride and Willie Pride. The color scheme of the lion (Willie Pride) and the lioness (Katie Pride) consists of:
Lion (Willie Pride)
- Hofstra blue cape
- Hofstra Pride logo centered on chest
- Shirt and shorts will be Hofstra gold with Hofstra blue trim
- Hofstra blue and Hofstra gold shoes
- Hofstra blue, Hofstra gold and white wrist bracelets
Lioness (Kate Pride)
- Hofstra blue cape
- Left chest Hofstra Pride logo
- Hofstra blue uniform with Hofstra gold stripe
- Hofstra blue and Hofstra gold shoes
