October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Sunday, October 20:
- "Ask Big Questions" Discussion; Alliance 12th Floor, 6:30pm
Join the Ask Big Question's fellows for a deep discussion on a question prompted and affiliated with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Learn more about others from listening and contributing to the conversation, as you learn more about yourself in the process. Refreshments will be provided.
Monday, October 21:
- "Blurred Lines"; Student Center Atrium, 10am-3pm
Join staff from the Counseling Center and the Office of Student Leadership and Activities as we dissect Robin Thicke’s questionable message in the summer hit “Blurred Lines.” Share your thoughts on the lyrics and message of the song with fellow Hofstra students and Counselors.
- Clotheslines Project; Student Center Dining Room, 5pm
Join the Counseling Center and student groups such as, She’s the First, Collegiate Women of Color, and Women of Action in a project to raise awareness about domestic violence. The clothesline project is a series of shirts in various colors and sizes, hanging from a “clothesline” in the back of the student center dining room. Decorate a t-shirt with positive statements of encouragement, testimonies and quotes to support domestic harmony.
Tuesday, October 22:
- Tie Dye a Pillow Case; Multipurpose Room East, 11am- 4pm
Tie dye a free pillow case to raise awareness for domestic violence.
- Gentlemen 101, Presented by Phi Delta Theta; Plaza Room West, 7pm
Join Phi Delta Theta in a discussion about the value of respect for yourself and others.
Wednesday, October 23:
- “This is Not A Wife Beater”; Student Center Atrium Table, 10am-3pm
Join representatives from of the Nassau County Coalition against Domestic Violence to learn about the warning signs of domestic abuse and learn about resources for victims of domestic abuse.
Thursday, October 24:
- Red Flags of Domestic Violence; Student Center Atrium Table, 10am -4pm
Please join the Counseling Center, the Office of Student Leadership and Activities, and members of She’s The First, Collegiate Women of Color, and Women of Action in a closing ceremony to the Clothesline Project.
Friday, October 25:
- Clothesline Project Closing Ceremony; Student Center Dining Room, 12pm
Please join the Office of Student Leadership and Activities and the Counseling Center a closing ceremony to the Clothesline Project.
Sunday, October 27:
- Walk to End Domestic Violence; Eisenhower Park Field 5, 11am
The Domestic Harmony Foundation will host its annual Walk to End Domestic Violence at Eisenhower Park. Registration begins at 9:30am. There is a suggested $5 donation for students. The Office of Student Leadership and Activities is providing transportation for Hofstra students to and from the Walk. For more information, please email OSLA.
