Division of Student Affairs Awards
ADVISOR OF THE YEAR (FACULTY AND STAFF)
Candidates for the award of "Advisor of the Year" must meet all the criteria set forth for Faculty Advisors by the Student Government Association. This professional should consistently "go above and beyond" in their advisement of individual students and student clubs/organizations. Candidates must be knowledgeable of Hofstra policies, rules, regulations. Recommender should provide specific examples of how the candidate demonstrates professionalism, character, and exceptional care for students in the Hofstra community.
COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award of "Community Service Event of the Year" must link with a non-profit organization and create an event that fosters collaboration and shared giving, displays acts of compassion that serves as a role model to other campus organizations, and raises awareness for a cause that promotes action and reaction. Awarded to students and clubs who collaborate with the Division of Student Affairs and reinforces humanitarian change in the midst of academia.
DR. HOLLY J. SEIRUP AWARD (HOFSTRA WOMAN OF THE YEAR)
Candidates for the award of the "Dr. Holly J. Seirup Award" must demonstrate the ability to lead others, explore opportunities to expand horizons, and be involved in campus organizations, campus-wide initiatives and the greater community. One of the most prestigious awards that a senior woman or man can receive with regard to their work with Student Leadership and Activities, the award commemorates Dr. Holly J. Seirup's relentless dedication and past efforts in Campus Life at Hofstra University.
HOFSTRA MAN OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award of "Hofstra Man of the Year" must demonstrate the ability to lead others, explore opportunities to expand horizons, and be involved in campus organizations, campus-wide initiatives and the greater community. This award is one of the most prestigious awards that a senior man can receive with regard to their four years of co-curricular life at Hofstra.
JUNIOR MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the awards of "Junior Man and Woman of the Year" are given to a man and woman of junior class standing who have exemplified exceptional leadership qualities during their co-curricular life at Hofstra. The candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead others, explore opportunities to expand horizons, and be involved in campus organizations, campus-wide initiatives and the greater community.
ONE DEGREE AWARD
The Division of Student Affairs recognizes students who have taken extra strides to go beyond the call of duty in both their academic and co-curricular lives in an effort to positively impact the campus community.
OUTSTANDING PROGRAM OF THE YEAR
Programs nominated for the award of “Outstanding Program of the Year” must have been sponsored by a student club or organization between March 2012 – March 2013. This program should have brought out members of the Hofstra community from all different areas and should have some sort of educational component.
SOPHOMORE MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award of "Sophomore Man and Woman of the Year" are given to a man and woman of sophomore class standing that have exemplified exceptional leadership qualities in co-curricular life at Hofstra. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead others, explore opportunities to expand horizons, and be involved in campus organizations, campus-wide initiatives and the greater community.
Off-Campus Living and Commuting Student Services Awards
GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD
Candidates for the “Good Neighbor Award” are students who reside off-campus and develop relationships with their neighbors and strive to embody the P.R.I.D.E. principles in the community. They also live purposely by educating themselves and other students who live off-campus by demonstrating exemplary leadership, organization, and hospitality.
OUTSTANDING COMMUTER OF THE YEAR
The Outstanding Commuter of the Year award recognizes a junior or senior commuting student leader. Award recipients have traditionally shown mastery in multitasking in a variety of activities inside and outside of the Hofstra community.
Recreation and Intramural Sports Awards
OUTSTANDING SPORTSMANSHIP OF THE YEAR
The Outstanding Sportsmanship Of The Year Award is given to a participant of our Intramural Sports program that has demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and conducted her/himself in a manner that sets a positive example for their team and all participants during intramural competition.
SPORTS CLUB OF THE YEAR
Sports clubs provide dynamic opportunities for students to compete and meet diverse people, which enhances learning outcomes outside the classroom and opens windows to give back to communities. This award recognizes the members of a sports club that reaches for these dynamic opportunities and exercises it to the fullest potential.

Candidates for the awards of "Club of the Year” are groups that strive to embody and fulfill their organization's mission or purpose. Candidates should maintain a progressive interest in serving the Hofstra community and cultivating leadership within their organization. Each group nominated should demonstrate creativity, innovation, resourcefulness, organization, and teamwork. Below are the categories for Club of the Year. Each category is a separate award.

Residential Programs Awards
LIVING/LEARNING COMMUNITIES STUDENT OF THE YEAR
This award is presented to a student leader in the living-learning communities located within the Netherlands, Liberty, Republic, Vanderpoel and Nassau Halls. This recipient of this award goes to a student leader that has taken on a leadership role within a living/learning community and has demonstrated significant progress toward achieving their leadership potential through campus and community involvement.
OUTSTANDING RESIDENTIAL STUDENT OF THE YEAR
This award is presented to a Residential Student in recognition of their contributions to the organization and to the Residential community as a whole. The recipient of this award has shown a substantial commitment to the development, well being, and over-all satisfaction for the Hofstra University's Residential community.
Student Leadership and Activities Awards
ANITA ELLIS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Candidates for the "Anita Ellis Endowed Scholarship" must be an active member of a fraternal or sororal organization at Hofstra with a minimum 2.4 GPA and must be actively involved in the Greek community.

FRATERNITY OR SORORITY LEADER OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award of "Fraternity or Sorority Leader of the Year" are students that have consistently gone "above and beyond" what's expected of their role or responsibilities with their designated organization, IFSC, Panhell, ALFSA, IFC national headquarters and Hofstra University. Nominees should demonstrate teamwork, and the ability to inspire and encourage their peers. Candidates must be in good academic standing and demonstrate exemplary leadership, organization, character, and distinction.
GRADUATE CLUB OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award(s) of "Graduate Club of the Year" are groups that strive to embody and fulfill their organization's mission or purpose. Candidates should maintain a progressive interest in serving the Hofstra community and cultivating leadership within their organization. Recommender should provide specific examples how this group's ability to consistently demonstrate the following characteristics: creativity, innovation, resourcefulness, organization, and teamwork.
NEW STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award of “New Student of the Year" are new students that got involved right from the start and exemplify exceptional leadership qualities in co-curricular life at Hofstra. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead others, explore opportunities to expand horizons, and be involved in campus organizations, campus-wide initiatives and the greater community.
SPIRIT SUPPORT STUDENT LEADER OF THE YEAR
Candidates for the award of "Spirit Support Student Leader of the Year" share their Hofstra pride by excelling in their academic pursuits, motivating spirit support members and who have contributed their time and energy on and off campus at games and special events.
