School of Communication
If you have a School of Communication major, there are a few things that you should consider while here at Hofstra University. The media capital of the world is located just 25 miles from campus so obtaining internships during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters would be a great way to break into the industry.
Attend an Event!
The Career Center and the School of Communication provide many networking opportunities as well as programs for obtaining internships. A Communication Career Fair takes place every fall in Studio A, Dempster Hall. A variety of media companies attend the fair and we advise that you take advantage of meeting employers and bring plenty of resumes! When attending networking events, follow up is key. Make sure to grab business cards and send an email expressing your appreciation for their time. If they have a job or internship opportunity available, they may contact you since you expressed an interest. For more networking tips, please visit The Career Center and speak with a Counselor.
Get Involved!
The School of Communication offers so many extracurricular activities that will help strengthen your media skills and provide the experience that employers look for. Join WRHU, a student-produced television program, or write for Pulse Magazine. Attend a PRSSA meeting or attend a Field trip to the city. Speak with your School of Communication Advisor to see what organizations are available to you!
