The following is a list of students who comprise the Student Advisory Board to Graduate Business Career Services (S.A.B.) for the 2008-2009 academic years. This list includes the names of officers, their contact information and their affiliation with an M.B.A. / M.S. organization.

M.B.A. / M.S. Association

The M.B.A. / M.S. Association is open to all Hofstra graduate students of business. The primary objective of the M.B.A. / M.S. association is to assist all M.B.A. / M.S. candidates with the continuing challenges faced in business careers.

The Association holds and sponsors events during the common hour on Wednesday evenings. Members will be notified in advance of any additional events that may be scheduled.

The Association provides members with:

  • Networking opportunities with alumni, faculty and established professionals in all fields of business
  • The opportunity to discuss with the administration the policies and issues of the School of Business as they relate to M.B.A. / M.S. students
  • An occasion to meet informally with fellow M.B.A. / M.S. students to discuss business related topic.
  • The M.B.A. / M.S. Association works closely with the Career Center to assist students with both internships and full-time job searches.

M.B.A. / M.S. Marketing Association (Graduate Chapter)

"Developing and promoting members in the business world."

The Marketing Association is open to all Hofstra Graduate students and alumni. The primary objective of the Marketing Association is to assist all marketing candidates with the continuing challenges faced in marketing careers.

The Marketing Association hosts and sponsors events throughout the semester that enable students to come in contact with marketing professionals and get a glimpse into the Marketing industry.

Members will be notified in advance of all scheduled events via their provided email addresses, Facebook announcements, as well as being posted in the C.V. Starr Wall Case located directly to the right of the first floor elevators in C.V. Starr. The calendar of events is always available in the Career Center (516-463-6060) throughout the semester.

The Marketing Association schedules events throughout the semester to encourage student interaction and networking. These events include:

Hofstra Business Consulting Group (HBCG)

Since its origins in 1988, the Hofstra Business Consulting Group has grown to become a powerful source of strategic consulting for growing businesses in the New York metropolitan area. HBCG consultants are M.B.A. and J.D. / M.B.A. candidates with related work experience.

The HBCG is an entity operating through Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business. It provides a wide range of business consulting services in accounting, business computer information systems, finance, marketing, management and international business.

Faculty members representing the various disciplines within the Frank G. Zarb School of Business are often called upon for advice related to the execution of individual consulting projects.

The HBCG has built a reputation within the Long Island business community for providing quality business consulting services to its clients. The HBCG provides an excellent opportunity for growing enterprises located within the New York metropolitan area to benefit from cost-effective, efficient, quality business consulting services.

The members of the HBCG continue to work hard to maintain the reputation earned. Consultants believe the HBCG is a distinguishing feature of the Hofstra University M.B.A. Program and it is considered a factor when applying for admission.

Hofstra Investment Banking Association (H.I.B.A.)

The objective of the association is to promote the interests of Hofstra M.B.A. students, planning to pursue a career in finance.

The primary activities of the club include hosting guest speaker events and arranging for visits at financial firms and institutions where Hofstra students have the opportunity to meet with Finance professionals, and learn first hand about their experience, and career development.

In addition to career oriented events we also organize training workshops, which aim at developing presentation, as well as analytical and quantitative skills that are critical for finance careers. Among such events are seminar series, at which corporate professionals help M.B.A. students gain public speaking and effective communication skills.

We also bring investment banking professionals that teach in one-day focused seminars valuation techniques, M&A finance and accounting, financial modeling, and supplement students' theoretical knowledge with practitioners' view on finance.

International M.B.A. / M.S. Association

The international M.B.A. / M.S. (IMA) Association of Hofstra University seeks to facilitate an environment in which Zarb graduate school students are able to appreciate diverse cultures, learn and benefit from the experiences of the student and faculty bodies and be prepared for challenges of working within a global business environment.

As the only graduate student organization within the School of Business which emphasizes international diversity, the IMA understands the unique needs of international students and aims to help them assimilate into a new way of life. The IMA provides a support structure for all incoming international students, which orients them through the various facets of the M.B.A. program for their changes in lifestyle in the early days, to their career searches and beyond.

The international M.B.A. / M.S. Association is a forum of expression and self-development. Through an interchange of ideas, the IMA draws from the diverse social and cultural mores of its members and facilitates an understanding of doing business in a multinational environment.

Zarb Women In Business

Zarb Women in Business is part of a national organization founded in 1979 at the Wharton School of Business. Hofstra University's Zarb Women in Business hosts a variety of speaker series, alumni connection programs and social functions to address current issues facing women in business today. In addition, we strive to establish contacts between members and business professionals to promote employment, career, and post-graduate school opportunities for its members.

Journal of International Business and Law

The Journal of International Business and Law (JIBL) is a joint scholarly publication between the students of the Hofstra University Frank G. Zarb School of Business and the students of the Hofstra University School of Law. The JIBL explores the interaction between business and law in the global marketplace from both a legal and a business perspective. Our mission is to promote scholarly debate and critical thinking by addressing the issues and topics that pertain to the current business and legal landscape. We invite our business students to write for our annual publication and to assist us with planning/hosting executive speaker seminars and conferences.

The JIBL provides members with:

  • The opportunity to have their thoughts and opinions published in a journal that is viewed worldwide;
  • The opportunity to enhance the reputation of the Frank G. Zarb School of Business;
  • The opportunity to earn extra income as a part of the Writing Competition;

Accounting Society/Beta Alpha Psi

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) is an honorary organization for Accounting, Finance, and IT majors. The primary objective of the organization is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study of accounting, finance, and IT (formerly BCIS), providing opportunities for self development and service, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. In order to be eligible to induct, you must have an accounting GPA of 3.2 or higher, an upper-level accounting GPA of 3.0 or higher, and an overall GPA of 3.2. Students can induct in the fall or spring semester.

Mission Statement
MASA is a Zarb School of Business sponsored student organization to develop and foster relationships among Asian students. It represents and serves the interests of Asian students through social, business, and cultural events. In addition, it promotes the awareness of the diverse cultures of Asia.

Goals

  • To provide assistance and service to incoming Asian students to help them become acquainted with Hofstra University.
  • To provide professional and networking information and facilitate the interaction between Hofstra alumni and the members.
  • To develop relationships with corporations and other professional organizations in New York Metropolitan area for career and business opportunities.
  • To increase Asian awareness through cultural and social events.

Membership
Membership shall be open to anyone who wishes to join MASA, regardless of race, religion, gender, or physical disability.

Governance
Only members who are graduate students in Zarb School of Business have the rights to vote or become a member of the Board.

Officers

MASA shall have the following positions, which shall be nominated and elected by MASA members:

The President shall act as a spokesperson for the MASA in the presentation of its positions and enunciation of its policies. He will preside over all meetings of the MASA and have the power to appoint and remove members of all committees, subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the members.

Internal Vice President shall inform the membership of the current initiatives and be in charge of general records and prepare correspondence from MASA. He will serve as a liaison between the Board members and the membership.

External Vice President shall act on behalf of the MASA to interact with academic and professional associations in and out of the school. He will serve as a liaison between MASA and student organizations on campus.

The Treasurer shall be in charge of the financial affairs and records of the MASA. He will make such records available for inspection to any member of the Board or general membership when requested.

Director of Information Technology shall be in charge of designing and support network infrastructure. He will maintain the website and ensure the information on the website is up to date.

All Officers shall also be members of the MASA.
