How Can You Find an Internship?

There are several ways to search for internships. The Career Center at Hofstra University has taken great measures to ensure that you have the most up-to-date internship information.

1. INTERNSHIP POSTINGS VIA PRIDE-CAREER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Click on the "Support Tab" of your Hofstra Portal account to gain access to the Pride-Career Management System (CMS). Once in Pride-CMS, please check that your "Profile" tab is accurate. Select the "Jobs & Internships" tab to view hundreds of opportunities. Under this section you have the ability to filter the positions in your view. The Career Center recommends using the "Show Me" filter and selecting "All Job Listings" and the "Position Type" filter to select internships. Under "Documents," upload your resume and start applying!

2. CAREER FAIRS

The Hofstra University Career Center sponsors Career Fairs in the fall and spring semesters. Many employers from a variety of industries come to Hofstra University seeking intern candidates.

4. ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS

Many academic departments post internship opportunities for their majors. Some have designated a faculty member as the Internship Coordinator. If you have declared a major, you may want to investigate the departmental postings as well as The Career Center postings.

5. LIBRARY INTERNSHIP REFERENCE BOOKS

The Career Center Library has several reference books that can provide information about national and international internship programs. Many of theses programs have deadlines and specific hiring criteria. Additionally, many of these programs hire small and large groups of interns and run over the summer or during academic semesters. The Career Center's C.H.A.M.P. volunteers can assist you with internship research in The Career Center Library.

6. NETWORK

Talk to friends, family, co-workers, supervisors, instructors, administrators and professionals in your field of study, and let them know you are searching for an internship. You never know who might be able to put you in touch with a contact person for an internship opportunity!

7. DESIGN YOUR OWN INTERNSHIP

You may find a company that interests you but does not have an internship program. Think about what you would like to gain from the internship and what you have to offer the company in return. Let the company know your goals and what you want to learn. If the employer is interested, you can work together to design a list of responsibilities and activities for your internship.
