What is Student Computing Services? 

  • Student Computing Services (SCS) is a group of dedicated professionals who enjoy supporting Hofstra students with whatever technological services they require.
  • SCS manages a network of campus-computing resources to support all student-computing needs.
  • SCS is staffed by full-time administrators and 90+ student employees. We are the second largest employer of students on campus.
  • SCS's mission is to "encourage and assist students to use the wealth of computer technology resources available throughout a student’s career at Hofstra University.
  • SCS is a division of Hofstra University’s Information Technologies division, which provides computing, telephone, Internet services and technical support for all members of the Hofstra community.

Labs

Need a program for class?  Check out our computer labs.  Most of the programs the professors will require you to use are found in the labs. (So you don't need to go buy that $100 program you will use for only one semester.)

Collaboratories

A collboratory is a place you and your group can go to work with wireless access, a large screen display for your laptop, a large whiteboard to brainstorm your ideas and develop your group projects. Where are they located?There are 4 rooms on the 8th floor of the Axinn Library, and a few inthe residence hall -Liberty, Republic and Jamestown/

My Mobile Apps

Hofstra portal applications are available for youriPhone, Blackberry and Windows mobile devices.  Also there is an app to let you know where the Blue Beetle is running. 

Computer Repair Center

Is your computer running slow or not running anymore? Stop by the Computer Repair Center located just outside Hammer Lab for a free diagnostic.

Computer Support Center (Formerly ResNet)

Having problems connecting to the Internet in your dorm room? Wondering how to forward your Hofstra e-mail to your phone? Need help with a software application? One of our experienced technicians can help you.

24 x 7 Telephone and Online Support

Have a problem at 2AM? ... Cannot come in to our office for help? Check out our HELP site in the portal by clicking on the HELP icon ( in the upper right-hand corner) or call 516-463-7777, option 1 for 24 hour telephone support.

Looking for your copy of McAfee and Microsoft Office? Check out our downloads page for links to those as well as other useful utilities at no additional cost. McAfee Antivirus Enterprise Edition is required to connect to the Hofstra network.
