"Out of Africa" Art Exhibition

This exhibition showcases 19th- and 20th-century masks, headdresses, weapons, tools, and figurative sculptures from nine countries located in western and central Africa, including Côte d'lvoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Cheryl Mwaria, professor of anthropology, will focus on a single work of art from the exhibition Out of Africa: Works from the Hofstra University Collection and discuss how its creation was shaped by a complex set of relationships to the history, geography, language, politics, economics, and the cultural experience of the African people. Exhibition opening reception will follow.
