Housing
On Campus
It is critical that you apply for housing as soon as possible. Prompt receipt of housing information helps to ensure that your room will be available to you upon arrival. Housing assignments are based upon the date of receipt. Although the Office of Residential Programs will try its best to meet your individual housing preference, please keep in mind that the housing request is not a guarantee for a particular room or assignment. If you would like to live in our residence halls, please complete the Housing Application on-line. You will be contacted with your housing assignment by the Office of Residential Programs.
Off Campus
Students interested in researching off-campus housing should contact the Office of Off-Campus Living and Commuting Student Services for additional assistance. However, international students should be aware that off-campus housing is limited. In addition, it is the student's responsibility to locate these type of accommodations if they are preferred. There is no guarantee that you will find off-campus housing upon arrival, therefore you should try to make your housing accommodations well in advance. It is highly recommended that international students live on campus during their first year at Hofstra so that they can familiarize themselves with the surrounding area as well as give time to research available apartments. Please note that you cannot live on-campus while you search for an apartment since you will be charged the full-year housing rate.
Meal Plans
All first-year undergraduates are required to purchase a meal plan. Each plan offers a declining balance cash account. Dining dollars are deducted from your account as you use them. It is recommended that all new international students obtain a meal plan each semester. For more information on meal plans, contact the Hofstra Card Services at (516) 463-6942.
