Transfer Students

If you will be attending Hofstra after directly attending another school within the U.S., either a: high school, an English Language Program or another university, you need to:

  1. Inform the international student adviser at your previous school of your intention to transfer. Obtain a transfer certification form, have it signed by your current advisor, and send it to the Office of Multicultural and International Student Programs.
  2. If you are not traveling in or out of the U.S., bring all copies of Hofstra's I-20 to the Office of Multicultural and International Student Programs during International Student Orientation.
If you leave the U.S. before following the transfer procedure above, you can use Hofstra's I-20 to re-enter the U.S. The Office of Multicultural and International Student Programs will need to contact your former school to ensure that you maintained proper F-1 status while attending. If for any reason your previous school does not certify your F-1 status, you will have to apply for a reinstatement of F-1 status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Reinstatement of student status is not guaranteed and is a serious matter. An international student adviser will assist you with the completion of a reinstatement application if necessary.
