Visitor's Visa
Important! Do not enter the US with a Visitor's Visa! This is of critical importance for numerous reasons. However, the most important reason is that there is no guarantee that a visitor's status can be changed to a student status.
Visa Waiver
Students from Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switerland and the United Kingdom should not enter the US without applying for a student visa at the consulate or embassy in their home country. Though citizens of these countries are permitted to visit the US without applying for a visa, with a visa waiver you are restricted to staying in the US as a tourist for 90 days. If you enter with a visa waiver, you will not be able to stay in legal status in the US for more than 90 days. You can not change to student status when you have entered with a visa waiver.
Remember...
- Only use the I-20 (or DS2019) for the school you plan to attend.
- The I-20 (or DS2019) is a very important document. Do not lose it.
- Do not enter the US on a visitor's visa or a visa waiver.
