HOW TO JOIN SGA

Any full-time undergraduate student may serve as a delegate in SGA. However, in order to become a full-standing member of SGA and, thus, have the power to vote in the Senate, delegates must collect the signatures of one percent of the student population, which is currently 90 full-time undergraduate students (click above for signature sheets). Delegates must also attend two Senate meetings (Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Greenhouse), one Rules committee meeting (Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in Student Center Room 207), and two committee meetings of their choice (click here to learn more about when SGA's committees meet). Upon completion of these requirements, delegates will come up for election before the full Senate of the SGA.

A student may also choose not to serve as a delegate and, instead, run for senator-at-large during the SGA elections held in April. To do this, a student must collect 50 signatures of full-time undergraduate students. Upon submission of his/her signatures, the candidate will be then be put on the election ballot and must receive at least 50 votes to become a senator.

If you are interested in joining SGA, please call (516) 463-6960, send an e-mail, or stop by the SGA office, room 207 of the Student Center, for more information. You may also attend Senate meetings on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in the Greenhouse of the Student Center.
